Self-explanatory; minor disaster averted.
Peak wind speed reached 52knots (about 95km/hr) at 2miles (3-4km) from shore, lasting approximately 6-7min. The peculiar and startling feature of this storm was the sharp crescendo build-up of the wind toward its maximum speed.

This video could make you seasick...Huge waves crash against a swaying oil rig, as a severe storm which swept across parts of Scotland hits the North Sea. The footage of the Borgholm Dolphin installation was captured at the weekend by James Eaton, an offshore worker on the nearby Lomond Platform, around 145 miles east of Aberdeen.

Raging north-westerly winds, a high spring tide and an extremely high storm surge brought destruction to many parts of the UK during the 4th-6th December 2013. The coast of North Wales took a beating with a storm surge adding a full metre on top of high tide, flooding out a few hundred homes in the Rhyl area. We set up to film the incoming storm surge in Colwyn Bay. Whilst this area had some protection from the north-westerly wave trains, meaning that the waves themselves weren't huge, the shear elevated height of the sea surface poured over coastal defences.
To address a few points before they're inevitably raised:
We are aware that filming during large waves and storm surges is very dangerous. We took all precautions to plan escape routes and avoid high risk but accept there will always be dangers.
There was a 60-70mph wind which was impossible to cut out of the footage without making it silent. The wind-noise may therefore annoy you!
We know that salt water wrecks cars - a nice jet-wash sorted that out later.
Filming storm damage and flooded properties carries a moral risk. We were discrete in our filming and also lent a hand in the clean-up, wherever we could.
Music at the end is a short section...

Filmed 2nd Nov 2013 at High Tide in the afternoon. It was one week after the big storms had hit the UK (as seen on another of my videos on this channel -http://youtu.be/9zIqEiHWU7M) but on this day the winds were even stronger and the waves on my local Cornish coastline even higher (up to 6m). I went down to look at this awesome sight and took my video gear to catch footage of some big waves, however I didn't expect to see what I did. The ferocity of the waves was really wiping up a huge expanse of sea foam, must have also been good conditions leading to this for sea algae, and the exceptionally strong gale force winds, made even faster locally on this beach by the tunneling effects of the surrounding high cliffs, was driving the sea foam up the river valley, causing a huge river of foam flowing uphill, upstream some considerable distance (at least 100m) beyond the very high tide level. I'd not seen anything like that before so I thought I'd share it with you on you tube.
The music is a track called 'Sea is she' by locally based Cornish/Devon band Littermouth

These are some scenes around high tide at Cromer of Friday 6th December 2013. The first of the surges, the highest, had been the previous evening. in the dark. The warnings had been that the surge would cover three high tides, and this is the second, on the Friday morning. Not quite as high as the previous evening but nevertheless fairly dramatic.

On 9th November 2007 the Norfolk coast suffered a tidal surge, thought by many to be the worst since the devasting floods of January 1953. Such surges are caused by a combination of wind and tide; in this instance the wind was not fully in the north so the storm was not as severe as it might have been. Our video was shot on the west seafront at Cromer.
