Understanding basic camera settings for landscape photography seems to be the key to people feeling confident with their camera. Once camera settings are mastered then the camera becomes an extension of you and we can start to really focusing on getting the creative juices flowing. In this video I focus down onto the camera settings and explain my methods in more detail.

Since I started vlogging I have moved away from making photography tutorials for beginners. It has allowed me to simply document my work process and show you my methods. Along the way people have picked up photography tips and tricks. Having said that, people still want to know the practical techniques. Things like, how to shoot in manual mode on...

In this Landscape Photography vlog, I leave the Lake District and travelled north into Scotland, through Glasgow to a little known gorge called Finnich Glen. I climb down into the gorge to be greeted by the most spectacular green covered rock walls with a deep red river running inside.

It was busy with people (because of school holidays), but I managed to find a spot on my own. As I set up for my shot, it started to rain so I placed a shower cap over the camera and lens to protect the front from water drops (a great trick if using a filter mount and the lens cap won’t go on).

I found a composition and played around with different focal lengths.

Once I captured my image of the gorge, I travelled further north and reached Glenceo where I hiked a hill to get a good vantage point of the Buachaille, a famous mountain in Scotland for landscape photography.

Here I need to use polarisers to cut down glare and ND Filters and reduce the light in the sky. Thi allowed me to increased the exposure and capture the gorgeous detail in the side of the mountain.

I ended up bracketing a few shots to ensure I captured as much detail as possible.

This video is dedicated to my Grandfather (Andrew Marr) who was born in Scotland and...

In this video, I go out to take some coastal, long exposure, panoramic images! This isn't me just taking a bunch of landscape photography terms and jumbling them up. When I headed out to Froward Point on the south Devon coast, I had a clear vision of the type of landscape photograph I wanted to capture.

I also spend a bit more time telling you why I visited this location, breakdown the steps I used to setup my Nikon D850, and show you how I captured the image. I also decide to make a panoramic print…. my favourite bit!

I've been using Adobe Lightroom since version 3 and over the years I developed a workflow to manage my photographs from import to export. In this video I share with you that workflow so you can see how I use Lightroom to import my photographs, select them for processing, keyword them, rate them and prepare them for export.

There are lots of different ways to do Digital Asset Management (DAM) in Lightroom, so my workflow is neither the right way or the wrong way, but hopefully by watching this video you'll take away some things you can put into you workflow.

Here are the timecodes for the different sections:

01:39 Lightroom and Catalog Configuration
02:34 Creating a New Collection for Import
04:00 Import Photographs
06:38 Selecting Images for Post Processing
09:46 Post Processing
10:17 Keywording and Metadata
15:07 Export
15:56 Lightroom Mobile
17:18 Using Smart Collections

You can find my other workflow videos, including backup, post processing, printing and colour management in this playlist

How do I calibrate my monitor? How do I profile my printer? How do I improve the quality of the photographs I print? You don't need to be a colour expert to improve the way your images look on screen and in print. As landscape photographers we can take a few steps that will greatly improve the colour accuracy of our images.

In the video I will show you how I set the white point and brightness of my monitor (calibration), and how I use a relatively inexpensive device to profile it. Finally, I use Fotospeed's free printer profiling service to ensure the colour from my prints is as accurate as possible.

I also show a post processing technique where I use masks in Photoshop to blend multiple photos of the same scene to create an even more dynamic image.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me on my journey so far!

On my final evening in the Lake District I wanted to capture a view that reminded me of where I had been based for the week whilst camping. I ventured up Side Pike, which is a tiny hill by lakeland standards, to find a viewpoint of the highlights of the valley. From Side Pike you have some cracking opportunities that take in the likes of the Langdale Pikes, Bowfell, Crinkle Crags, Pike of Blisco... the list goes on!

I set off from the National Trust campsite in Great Langdale a couple of hours before sunset with the sun on my back, soon after however the odd drop of rain was being felt. By the time I reached the top of Side Pike the wind had picked up and the rain showers were getting more frequent.

It sounds like the sort of weather that you would prefer to avoid, but it really showed me that it is during these conditions that you sometimes get the most dramatic moments, and if you are...

A practical Guide to Focus Stacking in Landscape Photography

In this video tutorial I show you the benefits of Focus Stacking in Landscape Photography, how to apply it in the field and how to blend multiple photos for optimal sharpness during post processing in Photoshop.

Normally using a small aperture (larg f-stop) can increase the depth of field in an image, but an optical effect called diffraction will harm the overall sharpness of the image. Focus stacking is a solution where multiple photos with medium apertures are taken and later combined for best sharpness throughout the frame.

Landscape Photography | The Blue Hour, it's the best time isn't it?

This week I visited one of my favorite places for landscape photography, Honister in the Lake District. Photographing Lake Buttermere is a must for any local/ish photographer!

It's the second time I've photographed there during the "Blue Hour".
I don't know why I seem to gravitate to Buttermere for the after dark pictures. Maybe it's because of it's geographic settings. It's surrounded by mountains, and because of this, it's not really a place suited to photograph during a sunrise or sunset. Having said that though, I had the most amazing sunset.

I make at least one video a week, and I've some amazing locations penned. Please make it worth my while and support the channel.

Chelsea, Madelyn, & Tony fly off to Glacier National Park in Montana to share some landscape tips. They get some shots of mountains and waterfalls, get soaked in a flash flood that ruined two cameras, and fly through the mountains in a helicopter.

In this video, we compare the 100mp Phase One with the Canon 5DSR and the A7RII. Using the Linhoff camera and a Rodenstock lens, we try to see how good medium format actually is compared to full frame.
