031 - Gene Regulation

Paul Andersen explains how genes are regulated in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. He begins with a description of the lac and trp operon and how they are used by bacteria in both positive and negative response. He also explains the importance of transcription factors in eukaryotic gene expression.

This video gives a quick outline of the different legislative acts (Directives, Regulations and Decisions) used by the EU and highlights the main differences between them.

For more information on the EU and its institutions please subscribe to our channel.

In this series we explain complex aspects of the EU in a comprehensive and understandable way. If however, despite our diligence and help of Dr. Jan Oster, we have left something out or made a mistake, please be so kind to tell and forgive us.

With Ciceroni we seek to be a guide to European culture and history. We make videos on little known subjects as well as more ubiquitous ones, ranging from current affairs like the European Union, to historic events like the Tulip Mania, and even mythological stories like those of the Greek Gods. In all these videos we strive to present the subjects in a objective manner and within their complex context.

We learned about gene expression in biochemistry, which is comprised of transcription and translation, and referred to as the "central dogma" of molecular biology. But how is this process regulated? How does a cell know which genes to express and when? Well it's pretty complicated, but let's just get our feet wet by looking at operons, epigenetics, and transcription factors!

This lecture explains about the Gene regulation in prokaryotes.
Regulation of gene expression entails a broad range of mechanisms that are used by cells to develop or diminish the production of specific gene products (protein or RNA), and is informally termed gene legislation. Subtle applications of gene expression are greatly located in biology, for example to trigger developmental pathways, respond to environmental stimuli, or adapt to new food sources. Practically any step of gene expression may also be modulated, from transcriptional initiation, to RNA processing, and to the put up-translational amendment of a protein.

Gene law is main for viruses, prokaryotes and eukaryotes as it raises the flexibility and suppleness of an organism via allowing the mobile to express protein when wanted. Despite the fact that as early as 1951 Barbara McClintock confirmed interplay between two genetic loci, Activator (Ac) and Dissociator (Ds), within the color formation of maize seeds, the primary discovery of a gene legislation procedure is largely regarded to be the identification in 1961 of the lac operon, learned by means of Jacques Monod, where some enzymes concerned in lactose metabolism are expressed with the aid of the genome of E. Coli most effective in the presence...

This biochemistry lecture explains about the mechanism of enzyme regulation with different regulatory substances which is a part of allosteric regulation. Enzymes need to be properly regulated so that the physiological functions as well as biochemical pathways can be properly established in cell. There are different types of enzyme regulation and here we have discussed about the few.
Here we will explain
Allosteric enzyme regulation
Feedback regulation
Product inhibition of enzyme

Your cells have to divide when you're growing, to heal wounds, and to replace dead cells. But how do cells know when to divide and when not to divide? We can't have cells just growing willy-nilly! That's what cancer is, and that's bad. Luckily, cells obey something called the cell cycle, which is regulated by a variety of signaling molecules, which tell the cell when to divide and when to chill out. Let's look at the phases of this cycle and some of its regulatory mechanisms now.

Today we wrap up our discussion of the media by talking about how the government interacts with and influences the content we see. Now it may be easy to assume that because we live in a free-market capitalist society, the only real regulation of the media is determined by the consumers, but this isn’t necessarily true. The government controls a number of factors including the potential for lawsuits, spectrum licensing, FCC fines, and has even tried to pass a bit of legislation. So we’ll talk about how all of these factors influence the media and end with a discussion of a pretty hotly debated topic these days - net neutrality.

In today's video, we demonstrate how to regulate an automatic or mechanical wristwatch. First, we explain the difference between regulation and adjustment. These terms are often used interchangeably, but they have quite different meanings. Regulation simply means slowing down or speeding up the movement.

We will use a timegrapher to assist in timing the watch, but it is not necessary. All you truly need is a pointy tool and something to remove the caseback. If you have a well running watch, you can regulate it to be more accurate if desired. Or, if you just want some knowledge on how to do it, this video will help you.

Lastly, we will put a Rolex Yachtmaster on the timegrapher to show you how an adjusted movement performs.

Today, we’re going to wrap up our discussion of economic policy by looking at government regulation. We're going to talk about the government's goals for the U.S. economy and the policies it employs to achieve those goals. Ever since the New Deal, we've seen an increased role of the government within the economy - even with the deregulation initiatives of President Carter and Reagan in the 80's. Now this is all pretty controversial and we're going to talk about it, as this is a long way from the federal government handed down by the framers of the constitution.

Have you ever wondered why you sweat when you get too hot from running or shiver on a cold winter's day in this video we are going to explain why your body behaves like this.

Humans are endotherms and this means we are warm blooded we keep our body operating at thirty seven degrees Celsius regardless of the external conditions however this is a real challenge as our environment changes all the time depending on the weather, our clothes, if we are inside by the fire or outside having a snowball fight. So how does this work?

It's quite similar to the heating system in a house. in a house is a thermostat that measures the temperature if the house gets cold the thermostat will tell the radiators to turn on and heat it up if it's too hot they will be told to switch off simple.

Your body works in just the same way here in your brain as a special area called the hypothalamus and it measures the temperature of the blood flowing through it and also it collects information from temperatures senses around the body. it then decides if the temperature is too hot or too cold and we'll try and bring it back to thirty seven degrees Celsius. If you are too hot the hypothalamus can then send signals out to the body by the...
